I retained Mercedes Castro for my post dissolution custody matter. She is knowledgeable, compassionate, and cuts straight to the chase. My fiance & I had an intake call with Mercedes two months ago. I was thankful that Mercedes took 45 minutes out of her day to speak to us, but frustrated that most of the phone call was spent dismantling her bias and assumptions about our family matter. Mercedes immediately advised that we drop the restraining order we filed against the mother of my stepson without even inquiring about the history and reason for the order, stating “this is a parental dispute, not a repeated pattern” without even asking any questions about our situation. She was aggressive and spoke over us when we tried to explain why that would not be in our best interest. It was incredibly frustrating, especially given that we have endured years of abuse from a woman who has been hiding my stepson, withholding visitation, and cyber stalking and harassing us just to name a few. Mercedes did give us advice for what to look for when interviewing different firms & suggested that any outliers (anyone giving advice or information that completely differs from the rest) is usually a red flag. This was good advice, especially considering no one else treated us like Mercedes did. Thankfully my fiance is very calm and mild mannered. I’m not sure if Mercedes has a bias toward fathers or if our situation was an anomaly. Anyways, we went with Reel Fathers Family Law and have been very pleased. My hope in leaving this review is that Mercedes can reevaluate her approach to matters she is not yet privy to. We would happily spend any amount of money to get our boy out of the scary situation he has been in and are glad it’s nearly over.
