James Moore is a knowledgeable lawyer and a decent person, but my experience with him was frustrating due to several key mistakes that cost me a significant amount of money and property. Despite his expertise, he repeatedly forgot or ignored material facts, hesitated to advocate strongly for my interests, and appeared overly cautious in negotiations.

Key Issues:

1. James disregarded a forensic financial expert’s buyout valuation, advising me to ask for less to avoid opposition pushback—rendering the expert’s $1.6k report useless.
He unilaterally extended my ex’s buyout deadline without my consent, showing poor negotiation skills or favoritism toward her.

2. He pressured me to agree to a settlement that resulted in me giving up a 20-acre property, despite the marriage being only 16 months long and the appraisal aligning with what the court might have ordered.

3. He failed to include the revenue of my Airbnb rental in the property valuation, a critical oversight.

4. He forgot that I had disclosed my ex’s domestic abuse, even when I reminded him the morning of our settlement meeting.

5. A court rejection letter due to filing errors was hidden from me, preventing the chance to renegotiate an unfavorable agreement.

6. He omitted an agreed-upon term requiring my ex to cover utility costs, and when I later reached out for help, he refused, citing that he wasn’t taking new clients.

5. Throughout negotiations, he seemed overly concerned about the opposing lawyer and my ex, repeatedly warning that they would “blow up,” despite them appearing calm.

Final Thoughts:

James may be a good lawyer in other cases, but he was ineffective in mine—particularly for a high-earning client against an assertive opposition. He struggles with organization, forgets crucial details, and may hesitate under pressure. If you work with him, take detailed notes, repeatedly remind him of key facts, and be proactive in discussions. While I still like James as a person, I cannot recommend him based on my experience.
