I was referred to Mr. Shapiro by the UFT. I had an obvious case of sewer service where a process server went to a previous address and made up a relative resulting in a default judgment 10 years ago I knew nothing about. I explained the facts to Mr. Shapiro who turned out to be one of the most condescending and rude and people I have ever met. For a 10K retainer he could take on my case, but I was unlikely to win but he could try. He went on to talk to me about his 30 years of experience, incorrectly pointed out that I only had 1 year to contest the default judgment (even though I had no idea about the lawsuit, court dates and eventual judgment) an that the law simply was not fair.

I'm appalled that someone practicing law doesn't actually know the law. Every single thing he said to me negated what the uft intake person said, the NY court system website explained, and the eventual lawyer that I found (at half the cost). People come to you for your expertise when they are going through some of the most stressful times of their lives. My case was discontinued with prejudice and I am happy that I didn't listen and I persisted. For people looking for an attorney - go elsewhere.

The most unprofessional law firm I have ever dealt with. Their lawyers take forever to respond. You're constantly routed through their front desk who can't be bothered to help you. They still work with paper and pen and are allergic to digital documents. They never tell you when they're out of office - you just end up calling when you need them the most and then get a message. I regret having used them for my case and if i wasn't so strapped for time I would have fired them. Worst part of it all, their office is above a Popeyes so every meeting room smells like fried chicken. I'm just glad I never have to deal with them again and regret having said yes to their retainer.
