I contacted this firm regarding a minor misdemeanor case because I needed guidance and was hoping to speak with someone who could point me in the right direction. I understand that attorneys charge for their services and that legal representation is not free. However, many people contact lawyers as a last resort, often during one of the most stressful and financially difficult periods of their lives. What disappointed me most was the lack of willingness to provide even basic guidance. I was told that I would need to pay $250 just for them to look up my case. When I explained that I was struggling financially, I hoped they might at least offer some general guidance or discuss possible options. Instead, the response was simply, "Okay," followed by a long and uncomfortable silence. Rather than acknowledging my situation or trying to point me in the right direction, it felt like my financial struggles were being ignored altogether. The conversation seemed to come to a standstill, with the expectation that I either come up with the money or end the call. The message I ultimately walked away with was clear: call back when you have the money. What makes this experience especially disappointing is that the attorney publicly speaks about understanding people's struggles because of her immigrant roots and background. As someone who is also from an immigrant family and was reaching out during a difficult time, I did not experience that understanding. The call left me feeling that compassion and empathy only exist if you have money in your pocket. Otherwise, you are simply told to come back when you can afford the fee. I noticed that many of the positive reviews focus on the help people received and the final outcome of their cases, and I am genuinely glad those individuals had a positive experience. However, those reviews do not necessarily reflect the financial sacrifices some people may have had to make to obtain that help. Some clients may have had the money available, while others may have had to struggle, borrow money, or take on debt just to afford legal representation. When people finally receive the help they need and achieve a positive result, it is understandable that their review focuses on that success rather than the financial hardship they may have endured to get there. I want to be clear: I was not expecting free legal representation. I was simply hoping for a little guidance, compassion, or an honest conversation about my options. Instead, I left feeling dismissed and unheard because I could not immediately afford the consultation fee. If there is one thing I took away from this experience, it is that this firm seemed far more interested in whether I could pay than in understanding the circumstances of someone reaching out for help. For a law office that claims to understand struggle and hardship, especially within immigrant communities, that was incredibly disappointing. The message I received was simple: if you have money, they will gladly help you. If you are struggling financially, call back when you do.
