My advice to you is to not hire Stephen Donaldson. In my opinion, he is a joke of an attorney: Hostile, inexperienced, incompetent, distrustful, and an ineffective communicator. Mr. Donaldson is seemingly not bound by any ethical standards. I’m writing about my experience as a warning to any prospective clients. After charging me thousands of dollars in legal fees, he abruptly and without warning, quit, just prior to pending litigation no less, and after treating me in a way that I can only construe as hostile and aggressive. I think he committed so many potential ethical violations including- not sharing important documents and information while he was still my attorney (resulting in my missing a court deadline), not responding to my requests for my file ( I had to ask an attorney to make the request, and he got parts of it), and secretly recording privileged conversations with his clients. While recording someone may technically legal in NYS, to me it feels unethical. I wouldn’t have cared if he asked, but he does it without permission. Mr. Donaldson has potentially harmed my case. He also breached confidentiality. Mr. Donaldson caused me such distress. My recommendation is to stay far away from him and to hire a seasoned, experienced attorney. Someone who is not driven by ego, but by his ethics.

As first time sellers it was an interesting trek through the emotional, physical, and legal journey that led to the sale of the home. I am most thankful to Mr. Donaldson as he literally took us by the hand and led us through the process. He explained everything carefully and was most helpful in answering any and all questions that we had. I would highly recommend his firm to anyone selling their home and needing a reputable, honest, and professional lawyer. He even arrived at the closing a bit under the weather but present in all respects until the process concluded. Thank you!!

We had a complicated closing due to the property being a part of an estate which was probated more than 10 years ago, requiring extra steps from the Surrogate’s Court. Mr. Donaldson coordinated everything necessary and was able to facilitate a quick closing so the buyers wouldn’t lose their locked-in rate. Mr. Donaldson is very personable, professional and communicated with us throughout the entire process. His fee was also very reasonable. I would highly recommend his services and intend to use him again in the future.
