I hired Chris at the beginning of summer. He accepted my case and I paid a retainer as agreed. Over 2 month went by and he did nothing on my case. I finally got ahold of him after many failed attempts. I was given an apology, and refunded…. But lost critical time needed to resolve my situation. I trusted him. I didn’t mater. I’m sad because he’s been good in the past. I don’t know why this happened. Ask how far out he is before signing on as a client.

I hired Chris Salcido to represent me during one of the most difficult periods of my life—my divorce. Looking back, I wish someone had shared an experience like mine before I made that decision. My experience was that communication was consistently poor. Months would pass with little meaningful guidance or strategic direction. I repeatedly sought advice on critical issues affecting my family and finances but rarely received actionable answers. What concerned me most was the lack of progress despite the significant amount of time that passed. The opposing attorney repeatedly requested information that I was told would be provided. I have emails documenting months of promises without follow-through. Eventually, opposing counsel filed a motion asking the court to order relief because of the time and effort they had spent trying to obtain information that had not been produced. Mediation is another example. Opposing counsel began trying to schedule mediation in November. By April, no mediation date had been agreed upon. During one of the few conversations I had with Chris, he assured me mediation would be scheduled within 30 to 60 days. It never happened. That was the point where I realized my case was not moving forward in any meaningful way. After approximately nine months, nearly all of my retainer had been exhausted, yet my case had made very little progress. The delay had enormous financial consequences. During that time I continued paying essentially all of the marital financial obligations while receiving little guidance on how to obtain temporary financial relief. As the case dragged on, I watched the equity in our real estate assets decline dramatically, costing what I believe amounted to hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost value. I also raised concerns about what I believed were repeated violations of the domestic injunction, including being locked out of my own home and having my belongings moved into the detached garage. I sought legal advice on these issues but did not feel they were addressed with the urgency they required. Ultimately, I made the difficult decision to terminate Chris as my attorney and retain new counsel. The difference was immediate. Within about a month, my new legal team obtained meaningful financial relief, began addressing the alleged injunction violations, and retained a forensic accountant to investigate financial claims made during the divorce. In a matter of weeks, they accomplished more than I had experienced during the previous nine months. Interestingly Chris didn’t even produce a final invoice to me until nearly 2 months after his termination. Equally interesting that it was the largest amount of any other previous invoice consuming nearly the entire remaining retainer balance. Every divorce is different, and every client will have a different experience. This review reflects mine. Divorce is emotionally and financially devastating, and every month of unnecessary delay can have lasting consequences. If you are considering hiring Chris Salcido, I encourage you to ask detailed questions about communication expectations, case management, timelines, and strategy before making your decision. I wish I had.
