I hired the Law Offices of Michael O. Smith for my workers’ comp case in Massachusetts, and after three years the case resolved with a favorable hearing decision and a settlement I was ultimately satisfied with. Attorney Smith and his team clearly knew the law and pushed the insurer to increase their offers more than once. I want to specifically call out Nolan Alexander, who was a great help in putting together my closing argument and communicating with me throughout negotiations to help get me to the settlement I actually wanted. My main critiques: communication turnaround could be slow — there were several points where I sent a form, a document, or a question and had to follow up again just to confirm it had been received. For a case this long, with this many moving pieces, a little more proactive updating would have gone a long way. I was also not happy with some of the settlement figures I was recommended to accept earlier in the case — I felt they didn’t fully account for factors I’d raised myself, and I had to push back and advocate for my own numbers before the offers reflected what I believed the case was actually worth. Still, when I did raise concerns directly, the team listened and adjusted course, and Nolan in particular made sure I felt heard as we worked toward the final outcome. I’d recommend them, especially if you’re prepared to stay engaged and speak up when something doesn’t sit right.
