Patrick Young was recommended to me by a friend to represent my 14 year old godson who was arrested after he got into a car he didn’t know was stolen. He told me he would be happy to take the case. My godson sat in detention over the weekend and on Monday morning we were told he was being transferred to Laporte County and so he couldn’t be released yet. I immediately messaged Mr Young who responded “Do you still want me to represent him” and I immediately responded “Yes” and then didn’t hear back that day. I called and texted for two days while my godson remained in detention and Mr Young continued to message that we would talk later. He just called me back to inform me that he cannot take the case because it’s too far for him to drive. He also informed me that we could have called the judge on Monday to request an immediate transfer and release. He’s known for three days that he wasn’t going to take the case and instead let me think he was still representing my godson. An innocent boy is still sitting in detention thanks to Mr Young misleading me.

Edit: Mr. Young’s claim that he informed me immediately that he could not represent my godson is false. I have timestamped proof that I texted him on the 12th to inform him that the case was being transferred to Laporte County and he responded asking “Do you still want me to take your case” and I responded “Yes”. At no point in the text exchange did he mention not taking the case. I also have timestamped proof of a five minute call on the 14th which is when he informed me for the first time that he could not take the case. He also told me that we could have requested an emergency transfer on the 12th, which was devastating as we were under the impression that he was representing us, and my godson had been sitting in detention for no reason. My godson has been released and the charges dropped but an innocent child sat in detention for an entire week because the system, and Mr Young, failed us.
