If you are tempted to contact Ms. Braxton, perhaps by the language of compassion and understanding you'll find on her website, be warned that the actual interactions you will have with her and her office staff are going to be abrupt, impatient, dismissive, and deeply unpleasant.

I recently contacted her office to find out about arranging a consultation regarding a far-from-arcane area of consumer law. I did not want to do a consult by phone, and was prepared to offer to pay for an in-person consult if needed. Unfortunately the receptionist wouldn't even let me explain this, instead transferring the call to Ms. Braxton herself. I wish that hadn't happened, because Ms. Braxton's telephone manner is jarringly unpleasant. She kept rushing and interrupting me, and then said without elaboration: "I don't handle those cases." When I asked if she could refer me to someone who does, she said no.

I realize this might sound like a complaint about someone being mean on the telephone, but it's not. Given the kind of law she practices and the emotional distress in which many prospective clients already find themselves, this kind of behavior is an indictment of her professionalism.

Cathy Braxton was my attorney at the end of 2013. I had a very delicate and difficult legal matter. She was extremely honest, and very forth coming about her fees and the her assessment of the outcome. Her professional legal service was truly a life saver for my situation, which she handled perfectly.
