Joseph Scrofano is hands down one of the best lawyers that I have hired. Now I have only hired 2 lawyers in my lifetime but he came highly recommended and he did not disappoint at all. One of his best qualities is the passion and logic that he approaches all aspects of your case with. He sources the best talent to move forward prior to making decisions and he also tries to minimize outside costs. But if it does cost, he is well informed and will let you know why it costs.

During my misdemeanor sexual assault case, Joseph had to take over from my first lawyer who had lost my first trial. I was convicted and awaiting sentencing. As you can imagine, it was a dark time but I pushed through and hired Mr. Scrofano to minimize my sentencing. Joseph used his experience and education as a top criminal defense attorney to put together a sentencing memorandum that pushed my judge to suggest that there had been an ineffective counsel issue aka my first attorney was so bad and that’s why I was convicted.

This began a new mini trial (which Mr. Scrofano told me he had never done before) that gave us an opportunity to vacate the conviction. Mr. Scrofano connected with colleagues, explored literature and equipped himself with all the tools necessary to put up a good fight. Just to be clear, his task was to get a Senior Judge to vacate a conviction that they had given on a misdemeanor sexual assault charge just months prior. We hired experts and all witnesses were prepared to testify (which was never explored in the first trial). Long story short, we won the ineffective counsel motion and were able to vacate the conviction.

This started our next journey- retrial for the misdemeanor sexual assault charge. Mr. Scrofano’s initial goal was to avoid trial (which would be costly) and work with the prosecution to get an outcome to the case that would satisfy both sides. Because that wasn’t possible (he tried) we decided to move forward with another trial. Mr. Scrofano was transparent about the possibility of having 2 miracles happen and I never assumed victory but I trusted in his expertise to give us the best chance at the best outcome. After 5 days of testimony and experts, the Judge delivered a NOT GUILTY verdict!! Mr. Scrofano even got on the floor to reenact testimony during his closing arguments. He went all out and I will scream from the mountaintops that if you are looking for a top criminal defense attorney to HIRE JOSEPH SCROFANO!!! Thank you and your firm for everything!!

I had been in a self defense situation, and the aggressor called the police on me! I called the emergency number for USLawShield and they put me through to Joe. He was very patient as I told him what had happened. While on the phone with Mr. Scrofano, the police came to my home and were knocking on the door. Joe walked me through the process, offering advice as needed. The police decided not to charge me at that time, no doubt in part because they knew I already had an expert attorney. He also spoke with me after the police left to let me know what may lay ahead. Mr. Gnocchi followed up the next day and had already reached out to the authorities when he contacted me. In the end, prosecutors determined no crime had been committed and no charges would be filed, and the case was closed. I firmly believe that the results may have been very different had I not had so much help from both of these gentlemen, and their staff. Thanks Again!!!!

After conducting my research online, I decided to go with Joseph for my boyfriends case (this was about 6 years ago) for gun charges in DC. He is the best lawyer ever, strategic thinker, analyzes and is a hard worker. Highly recommend!
