Jack Atwood is too cocky for his own good. He represented me in a vehicular homicide dui case and truthfully couldn’t have done worse, and I paid him $20,000. He wasn’t present at my arraignment, missed several court dates, leaving me to have to explain to the judge, and d.a., What was going on. Then most importantly, he didn’t even file a single motion, and during trial it became known that there were serious chain of custody issues with my blood draw, and it shouldn’t have been allowed as evidence, but Jack never filed a motion to challenge it so it was too late. A single motion could have and would have saved me over 3 years of incarceration. I could have done 2 1/2 years max in county jail for vehicular homicide without d.u.i. Instead I got a 5-6 year sentence in state prison. Don’t get me wrong, I deserved every bit of that time, but if Jack did his job instead of thinking he knew everything without even looking through the files, I wouldn’t have had to do a day over 2 1/2 years. Then he comes to visit me and acts like he did a great job getting me only 5-6. Just about every case similar to mine gets approximately that amount of time, I could have represented myself and got a 5-6. Anyway, just be careful with this guy, he talks a good talk, and is a pitbull in trial, but there are many others doing time right now that have had similar problems with this guy, I know because I was just there talking with a few and they all had the same issues. He also belittles you constantly by talking to you and explaining everything as though you don’t comprehend basic courtroom procedure and law. Overall just a bad experience. He had my life in his hands and couldn’t have cared less.
