Our organization had an issue that my family lawyers did not deal with. We were referred to three other firms. Two could not even have a quick chat until 7 to 10 days later. When I called the Herbert Machnik Law Firm, Jason Machnik took a moment for a consultation on the phone, right then. The moment turned into at least 20 minutes where I barraged him with questions which he thoughtfully answered in terms I could understand (not legalese). He was very familiar with what we needed done but also gave me lots of other great tips and ideas that would help our organization. I hung up convinced he was someone who would be a wonderful asset to us. Then reality set in. His retainer, although less than the other two lawyers I called, was more than our board said we could spend without a general meeting vote. A few days later, he called me, not to ask about the retainer, but to answer a question of mine that he had sent to an associate. I had to tell him that our tiny budget could not afford him and instead of hanging up, Jason went on to brainstorm with me about how we might be able to get our issue resolved in other creative and low-cost ways. Half an hour later, when we hung up, I felt a lot of emotions not normally associated with attorneys. Also, when was the last time a doctor had spent 30 minutes really concentrating on my health? To have a professional focused more on solving a problem for me than worrying about billing was amazing.
