Our son tragically passed away in 2025. He left no trust nor will, so settling the estate was not a simple matter and we hired a probate lawyer. Our son owned a house he purchased on his own. He also had an ex who made a claim on the house and sued us. So in addition to going through the difficult California probate process, we had to hire a second attorney, specializing in probate litigation to fight the credit claim on the estate from the ex, and get the house sold. To close probate, the sale of the house had to happen. This suit by the ex took what should have been a 3-6 month process and added at least 3 more months to the process. We interviewed several litigation attorneys and found the initial communication with Bill Carey of Driscoll Anderson Reynard to be direct, to the point and synergistic with our needs for the case. He patiently answered our questions before we formerly hired him, explaining what was ahead, what bumps we could expect and the pros and cons of seeing the litigation to the end of a trial, or settling through mediaion. We hired Bill and he immediately dove in to set up our strategy, explain why he wanted to take a certain tack, and move the proceedings in our direction. Ultimately, Bill took us into mediation to avoid a costly trial, and get this done as soon as possible. While the attorneys for the person suing us sought to slow the process down, inflicting more pain on us, and making thing more costly, Bill did all he could to accelerate the process, save some fees, and get the case resolved. The mediation took an entire day, was fair to us and was signed. The mediation agreement sold the house to the ex, "as-is", for a fair price, and we are now free of the daily pressure of being sued by someone who intentionally, by his own words told me: "I have the best legal advice money can buy and this will be time-consuming and very expensive for you". Bill has a staff of: Attorneys with specialties in Probate, in Real Estate, plus Admins who were readily available to answer questions, advise and execute what needed to be done. We highly recommend Bill Carey if you find yourself in a situation like we did.
