Thank you to Yash Pahwa and team for working on my tenant landlord issue. My landlord took me to court and attempted to charge me retroactively for thousands of dollars in unenforced late charges. It was a scary and daunting process as I am a domestic violence survivor. This is the rental home I moved to, post-divorce after my ex-husband had me removed from our marital home in an illegal manner. The threat of homelessness is very real and terrifying repercussion that most survivors have had to endure while married and after. As soon as Yash saw the tenant ledger and a copy of the complaint, he immediately noticed that the landlord’s attorney was trying to present the fees in a way that shielded the unenforceable charges. He was proactive and presented a few options for getting me the best outcome. He listened to my suggestions and answered all my questions and concerns in a timely manner. It was easy to reach him, and he was fast at responding to calls or emails. I was in a state of panic, afraid for me and my two dogs. I had hope but was not entirely confident the landlord would negotiate since they had been so unreasonable, prior. In the end, I had to make one compromise, but I got to stay in my home and did not have to leave in a frenzy with nowhere to go. The case was dismissed in less than two weeks. Statistically, most domestic violence survivors lack family support and resources. That is my situation, also. Thank you, Yash and team for being an advocate for women and survivors. I am grateful for your hard work.
