BEWARE: THIS LAW FIRM SUED ITS OWN FORMER CLIENT AND OBTAINED A DEFAULT JUDGMENT AGAINST ME WITHOUT MY ACTUAL KNOWLEDGE. Argyris Mah represented me for more than two years. Throughout that relationship, Andrea Mah and her firm regularly communicated with me by email. Andrea also told me directly, “We usually don’t represent men, but in your case, I will make an exception.” That statement made me feel that men were viewed and treated differently by this firm. Billing was a major problem. In my experience, they constantly encouraged telephone conversations instead of communicating efficiently in writing. During these calls, they would spend time discussing personal stories, their lives, and even matters involving their neighbors—while the billing clock continued running. From administrative staff to attorneys, almost every conversation seemed to generate another charge. I felt that these lengthy conversations were encouraged because they increased the bill, not because they advanced my case. After the attorney-client relationship ended, the firm sued me for its disputed fees. I acknowledge that I received the original lawsuit in 2023. What I did not receive were the later documents seeking entry of default, a court judgment, or the resulting judgment. The firm now claims these critical documents were mailed to me through ordinary, untracked mail. I categorically deny receiving them. For more than two years, they routinely communicated with me by email—yet they never emailed these particular documents, never called me, and never warned me that they were actively seeking a default judgment. I learned what had happened only when my bank account was levied. I am challenging the judgment and intend to present the complete communication history and disputed mailing declarations to the court. I am also reporting my experience to the State Bar of California. This review reflects my personal experience and the court records available to me.
