Unfortunately I had a bad experience with Ray. I initially contacted Ray because he came highly recommended within the small property-owner community in San Francisco. During our first call, he was attentive, detailed, and appeared genuinely invested in helping me understand my options as a new landlord navigating difficult circumstances. That strong first impression led me to believe he would be responsive and committed. Unfortunately, everything changed after I retained him. Once I paid the retainer, communication became inconsistent and significantly delayed. Emails went unanswered for days or sometimes weeks. Without explanation, I was sometimes routed to other assistants/associates even though I believed I was hiring a single attorney for a straightforward landlord matter. This inconsistency created uncertainty and frustration. Billing also became a major concern. I was surprised to see charges for several hours of consultation that occurred before I signed the retainer—charges that had never been disclosed or discussed. I had to engage in multiple back-and-forth emails simply to request a refund for those fees. The issue was not only about the money; it damaged the trust between attorney and client, which is especially critical for landlords facing time-sensitive issues. Subsequent invoices were also alarming. Nearly 3k was billed for a half-completed eviction document that Ray himself indicated would still require significant additional work and the case had not even been served to tenants nor filed to the rent board. Short emails were billed at unexpectedly high increments, and responses were slow. Overall, while Ray may make a strong initial impression, my experience did not reflect the professionalism, responsiveness, or advocacy that clients should expect. For landlords seeking dependable and timely legal support, I would strongly encourage exploring other options.
