Would not recommend for divorce. They score low on communication and results. I was afraid to ask questions, as each question is billed immediately (that's what they excel at). My divorce was not complicated by any means and I feel that my case could have been solved between attorneys, but little effort was put in by my attorney (Jill Carpenter). As it went, the case went to mediation (which cost thousands more), and the mediator is the one who got things done. Jill didn't even explain to me why i had to pay Alimony AND an equalization payment, not one or the other, which seemed out of line. Do Not hire this firm, as they seem to only care about the money they make, not you.

They are rude. They can't keep staff and moved out of the main office without a sound. They charged 300 dollars for a 5 minute phone call. They hang up on you if you ask questions. Steer clear and go with anyone else.

My Experience With This Firm Representation I hired Jill Carpenter of Nashville Law Offices to represent me in a child custody matter. During the representation, I experienced communication and scheduling issues that affected my confidence in the process. The most positive experience I had with the firm was with the secretary, who was courteous, helpful, and professional in my interactions with him. Specific Concerns On more than one occasion, scheduled hearings were canceled, including one cancellation that occurred shortly before the scheduled court time. I also had questions about the work performed on my behalf and how funds from my retainer were being applied. At one point, I received notice that the firm intended to withdraw from my case because of an alleged failure to pay. This was confusing to me because automatic payments had been withdrawn from my bank account at regular monthly intervals. Based on the payment records available to me, I did not understand why the firm considered my account past due. I requested clarification and documentation regarding my payment history and billing. After I provided documentation and discussed the issue with the firm, the payment discrepancy was resolved to my understanding. However, I continued to have questions about certain charges or withdrawals and whether they corresponded to clearly communicated work or progress on my case. This contributed to my concerns about billing transparency and the status of my representation. Decision to Change Attorneys Ultimately, I consulted with and retained another attorney because I believed a change in representation was appropriate for my situation. My decision was based on my personal concerns regarding communication, scheduling, billing clarity, and the lack of effort put into my case. Advice for Prospective Clients Based on my experience, prospective clients may wish to ask detailed questions about communication procedures, billing practices, automatic payments, who will be responsible for handling the case, and how scheduling changes are managed. It may also be helpful to keep records of payments and communications and to request clear, written information about retainer use, billing, and account balances throughout the representation. This review reflects my personal experience and opinions.

Listen to every review that tells you this is a money scam. I met with my lawyer one time, I have paid them over 4600 for a case they told me would cost 2500, paid for them not to pull out and then they immediately refiled to pull back out charging me over a thousand each time they did. They are still charging me and I’m not even their client anymore! The front office are the only ones that will speak to you and good luck giving them a phone call and not basically being told you’re a dumbass. I have receipts of everything I’ve paid for and the initial quotes, I’ve paid thousands more than they quoted and now I’m just having to find a new lawyer altogether. They are poorly rated for a reason, heed these warnings.

I was represented by Jill Carpenter. While she was competent when actually engaged, I had to (sometimes forcefully) demand her attention to get any progress on my case. There was never any plan in place, never any discussion of next steps, and the entire timeline to resolution was driven by me. I felt I had to make a pest of myself just to receive adequate representation.

There are many examples, but I'll just name a few:
1. I had a custody hearing scheduled 2 months in advance. The day before the hearing, Jill requested an extension due to a (pre-known) conflict. As a result, the judge granted my ex's request to block my custody from my daughter without a hearing.

2. I briefly had to have supervision for visitation with my daughter. To begin that visitation, I needed a hearing to get my supervisors approved. It took three phone calls to Jill to even get that hearing on the calendar, and it was scheduled for over a month away- meaning I did not see my daughter for almost 2 months total.

3. Following mediation, there was a mistake in my parenting plan. Not only did Jill not notice it, but she did nothing to correct it when I highlighted it. I was charged around $1000 for time supposedly spent correcting this mistake, but two months later the parenting plan was filed with the court with the mistake still in the document. It took me calling the office day after day demanding a correction to get the error fixed, as well as another $500 of paralegal time.

4. On the final day of my divorce, I received both texts and push notifications instructing me to show up at the courthouse. I took time off work to do so. Upon arriving, I was sitting alone in the hallway, with no one there. I finally reached someone by calling the Nashville Law Offices number, at which time they informed me I didn't actually need to be at court that day. They just forgot to tell me that.

If you're looking for someone to do a quick draft or just execute against your instructions, this may be fine. If you actually want an advocate or someone to help protect you, go elsewhere.
