Mr. Leatherman was my court-appointed attorney for a case in Ellis County, Texas, for the past 18 months. Throughout that time, we had only onemay two conversation, during which I informed him that my charges were for unlawful carry of a weapon and possession. I also explained that I am a foreign national (MOOR) and an government official of an Indigenous government that is actively decolonizing.

Instead of advocating for me, Mr. Leatherman belittled me, dismissed my legal status, and attempted to coerce me into accepting a plea deal—even though I knew Ellis County was violating my rights. He made no effort to fight for me and failed to present any legal arguments in my defense.

Worse, he tried to convince me that Texas prosecutes and executes foreign nationals, clearly ignoring the legal protections that apply to my case. I personally submitted multiple motions because he refused to act on my behalf, and those filings were ignored—a direct violation of Texas criminal procedure and constitutional law.

It became clear that Mr. Leatherman saw me as an ignorant Black woman and wrongly categorized me as a “sovereign citizen”, rather than recognizing that I represent a legitimate government with a Declaration of Independence and a constitution. His actions seemed more aligned with ensuring I remained within the system rather than defending my rights.

I fired him last month and chose to represent myself pro se. After nearly two years of continuous resets, I filed a motion to dismiss—and today, my case was dismissed. Just last month, I was threatened with trial in April 2025 if I didn’t take a plea deal for three years of probation. The moment I refused and stated I was prepared to take the case to trial, the charges were dropped.

This experience only confirmed what I already knew—Ellis County and Mr. Leatherman are part of a corrupt system that thrives on unjustly incarcerating our people. If you want real legal representation, I strongly advise against hiring him.
