After I was seriously injured in a fall at work on May 31, 2024, my life changed in ways I never expected. Before this accident I had full mobility and independence. Now I am facing a future where I may only regain around sixty percent or less mobility, and that depends on surgeries and recovery going well. Living with that uncertainty has been frightening and overwhelming.

What made this experience even more difficult was the way I was treated by the workers’ compensation system. Throughout this process I dealt with countless representatives. I was often treated like a file on a desk rather than a human being whose life had been turned upside down. At times I felt dismissed, doubted, and spoken to in ways that made me feel like a liar instead of an injured employee who needed help. The constant turnover of representatives only added to the feeling that my situation was simply another case they needed to move through so they could get to the next one.
