I had a very disappointing experience with Vet Law and would not recommend them.

Their website advertises a “free case review” or consultation. In reality, their intake staff treated the initial intake call as the “case review,” and after briefly looking over my information, they quickly told me, “Yes, we will take your case.” I had not spoken with the actual attorney who would handle my matter, nor had I received what I would consider a real consultation. Because of that, I refused to sign their engagement letter and asked for an actual case review/consultation before committing. I wanted to know who I’d be working with and how they operate.

It’s a good thing I did not sign.
When an attorney finally called, I specifically asked to speak with the attorney who would be managing my case. I then learned that the person calling was essentially a “sales attorney” and would not be the one actually handling my claim. That was my first red flag.
Given the nature of my case; 25 years of lost time in rank and promotion due to what I believe is a wrongful discharge, I asked some very basic, reasonable questions:
How many partnering attorneys do you have?
How many associate/practicing attorneys do you have?
How many support staff?
On average, how many cases does each attorney handle?

I asked these questions because I need an experienced attorney who truly understands military law and because I do not want to be just another number in a high-volume firm with high turnover. Instead of answering any of these questions, the attorney simply said, “This is not going to work out,” and effectively ended the conversation.

That response told me everything I needed to know about their firm and culture. In my opinion, this is the kind of firm that:
Tells you what you want to hear up front to get you signed,
Does things on their terms, not yours,
And may drop clients when things get difficult, leaving them in a worse position than before.

Once a firm takes your case and then drops you, it can become much harder to find another attorney willing to step in, especially in complex veteran and military-related matters.

My advice: proceed with extreme caution or look elsewhere. In my experience, the people I spoke with showed no real empathy, did not seem to care about me as a veteran, and were not willing to engage in basic transparency or accountability. As veterans, many of us are simply asking for honest representation and responsible advocacy. Based on my interaction, I do not believe this firm meets that standard.

If you are a veteran reading this, I strongly suggest you move on to the next firm in your search. You deserve better.

I'm a disabled vet. This site says it serves veterans but when I called they said the website was a mistake. They are Austin Law, which is exactly what the site claims is their parent company. If this doesn't deserve a zero score, nothing does! They say they only take criminal cases. They'd be in good company!
