The individual stated "when you are ready to hire, please call back." She hung up on me. Probably, not a person I would like to to business with.

On September 10, 2025, at approximately 9:30 a.m., I contacted Ms. Albelais for a consultation following a referral from the San Bernardino County Bar Association received on September 2, 2025. While I had a courteous interaction with her staff, my conversation with Ms. Albelais herself was unexpectedly difficult. When she determined her services weren't aligned with my needs, her communication became dismissive and impatient. She made assumptions about my situation based on limited information and repeatedly interrupted me before I could provide necessary context. Her tone came across as patronizing rather than professional, leaving me feeling unheard rather than simply redirected to more appropriate resources. Additionally, some information she provided contradicted my prior research and was later confirmed as inaccurate by another attorney I consulted. Most concerning was that Ms. Albelais confidently stated my matter was a civil case outside her family law practice. In fact, my case was a family law matter as later confirmed by other legal professionals and law enforcement who assisted me to a successful resolution. Her combination of incorrect information delivered with condescending certainty was particularly troubling for someone seeking legal guidance. I understand that practitioners routinely decline cases or projects outside their practice areas—as a self-employed professional myself, I do this regularly. However, these situations present an opportunity to demonstrate professionalism and maintain goodwill. Prospective clients who inquire about unavailable services may still have future relevant needs, provide referrals, or require other services the practice does offer. A more empathetic approach—acknowledging the person's concerns while clearly explaining why the matter falls outside one's expertise—benefits everyone. It preserves professional reputation, maintains potential future client relationships, and simply treats people with basic courtesy. While her receptionist was helpful, Ms. Albelais' handling of our consultation fell short of the professional standards I would expect from someone in her position.
