Second time I've worked with this law firm, specifically Mr. Matteson. On my own personal experience Scott and Matteson Family Law have worked in the most professional manner. They respond fast to all phone calls, message, etc. Mr. Matteson is on top of his game! Straight forward type of lawyer that will guide the case to the right path. Even though my case was dismissed on my behalf he always kept me on the loop as to what evidence is needed on my part to prove a compelling case. If I have to go back to family court again I will definitely hire Mr. Matteson again. Thank you!

Just to update:
When ending my affiliation with this law firm I had a balance around $700. I wrote my initial review with that balance still unpaid.
This firm offered to zero out my balance in return for me removing my negative review. I have the email and drafted agreement they put together if there's any question to the validity of this.
I'm not going to lie, I seriously considered it because I had already spent so much money here.
I paid the balance in full and declined their offer.
Chose another firm.

In 2012 I left my husband after 22 years together. Mr Scott was our mediator. I took the IRA and my ex got the house which was worth 100k more than what the IRA had. Mr Scott told me that I could get alimony payments for half the time we were together and that would help off set the 100k difference over time. He told me that was "standard stuff". I could not afford an attorney at the time and I thought it was going to be an amicable divorce so I went ahead and agreed to that thinking my ex would have to pay for 10 years which was half the time we were together. The amount my ex was to pay came from some sort of formula the courts use in determining that amount. Or so he said. I found out later that the amount was much lower than the norm. I also wasn't informed that alimony payments are considered temporary and my ex could take me to court later and ask for a modification. Mr Scott never mentioned that or I would've never agreed to giving up the house for the IRA. Mr Scott said he was not there to represent either of us or take a side but was there to help us with the paperwork and dividing our assets fairly. My ex stopped paying after 2 years, is 2 1/2 years in arrears and took me back to court 4 times last year. He lost but hasn't paid again the last 6 months and had me served again for modification. My advice to anyone looking at mediation is DO NOT SIGN anything without a lawyer. No matter how amicable you might think your divorce is. Mr Scott clearly was on my ex's side by telling me this was standard stuff and alimony would make up the difference for the unfair division of assets. I wouldn't doubt that he told my ex that he could get the alimony modified later when we were "negotiating".

In my case, I tried to settle on my own. Opposing counsel was very aggressive and pushed me to a point where I had to hire someone. I am so thankful for James Scott and his office for guiding me through this difficult process. Mr. Scott educated me, protected me, and fought for me. I highly recommend a consultation with Mr. Scott before you hire anyone else. I sleep very well at night knowing that opposing counsel bit off more than he could chew.
