I hired Sheri Jo because I made it very clear during our first meeting that I needed an attorney who would actively fight for my child. Unfortunately, my experience did not reflect that level of advocacy or professionalism.
There were times when Sheri Jo did not arrive before court to speak with me, leaving me feeling unprepared going into important proceedings. Communication from the office was also consistently poor. Phone calls were often not returned, and it was extremely difficult to get updates or responses when I had questions about my case.
Throughout the process, I often felt that my daughter’s Law Guardian showed more initiative in advocating for her interests than my own attorney. In addition, interactions with both Sheri Jo and members of her staff frequently came across as dismissive and unprofessional, which added unnecessary stress to an already difficult situation.
Less than a year ago, Sheri Jo personally told me that if I ran into any issues when filing for child support, I should call her. On February 11th, within an hour of leaving child support court, I contacted her office. My call was never returned. I followed up again by email on March 4th and received no response. After weeks without communication, my mother-in-law — who attended every court date with me and is well known to the office — called on my behalf. She was told that Sheri Jo could not take on my matter due to her caseload and that there was no record of my call. If that was the case, it should have been communicated to me directly rather than ignored.
After paying approximately $4,500 in legal fees, I expected consistent communication, professionalism, and a stronger level of advocacy. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. Clients going through family court are often dealing with extremely important matters involving their children, and they deserve an attorney and office that communicates clearly and treats them with respect.
