I hired John D’Angelo approximately six years ago to represent me in a custody matter. Based on my experience, I was extremely disappointed with both the representation I received and the outcome. Going into the case, I believed there was substantial documentation and evidence supporting my position and serious concerns involving my former spouse, including a history involving police and allegations of violence, abuse, harassment, and stalking. Despite this, the case ultimately resulted in an outcome I felt was unjust and completely contrary to the evidence I believed was presented. What was even more frustrating was what happened afterward. On multiple occasions, my former spouse violated court orders. I brought those violations to my attorney’s attention and asked for assistance in addressing them through the court. Despite acknowledging that violations had occurred, my attorney repeatedly declined to pursue the matter. I struggled to understand how I could spend thousands of dollars obtaining court orders that, in my experience, were not meaningfully enforced when they were repeatedly violated. I was also told that the hearing had been unfair and unjust, yet when I asked for assistance with an appeal or with pursuing a change of judge, I was not provided the help I was seeking. When I needed assistance with other legal issues related to my case, I was frequently told no or that the firm would not get involved. After six years, the primary thing I feel I was left with is approximately $30,000 in legal debt and a profound lack of confidence in the representation I received. I understand that no attorney can guarantee a particular outcome in court. My concern is the level of advocacy, communication, and willingness to pursue the legal remedies I was asking for. Based on my personal experience, I would not recommend John D’Angelo or this firm to anyone seeking representation in a custody or family-law matter. If you are considering hiring this firm, I strongly recommend that you thoroughly research your options, ask very specific questions about how your attorney will handle violations of court orders and appeals, and make sure you are comfortable with the level of advocacy and communication you can expect before signing a retainer.
