Okura & Associates

I can't believe all the positive reviews since it's far off from what we've experienced from Okura & Associates. But to those who were helped...good for you. Hidden fees here and there throughout the years, and charged for an additional service that was not provided, just prior to my mom's passing. I'm sure of that part being documented, which I suppose can be provided if requested, but as stated 'hidden', or not clear on what was done with the fee money paid to them, because mom passed shortly after payment was made. Of course, there are limitations when it comes to trusts beneficiaries, but their handling of matters or questions are well short of professional or friendliness; though most law offices are the same. Since estate planning is stressful, you'd think they'd make it less stressful as the client, but again, that was definitely not the case with the handling of our trust with this office.

We filled out a contact form on their website and received a call back. We were asked questions by Maria and told we'd be sent a Probate Questionnaire form. Never received one for about a week. Gave them the benefit of the doubt and just so happened they called back and left a voicemail. I returned the call and spoke to the same receptionist, Maria, as if she were speaking to me for the 1st time. She had no recollection/notes from our 1st conversation. She informed me she'd resend me the Probate Questionnaire form again. Received it same day. Returned the completed form same day (7/30). Followed up with an email 8/6. No answer. Followed up again today 8/11 with a stern request for some guidance, information, options on what to do. I received 2 voicemails. Spoke to Michelle. Not a "Hi. How are you doing? Thank you for calling back..." except a "we can't help you. You're not a blood relative." Didn't want to hear us out to gain more insight as we've never done anything like this before. She was rude and just cut throat. We informed her we're concerned a neighbor is going through her house right now. She told us that's illegal if he has no rights and kept insisting we have no legal rights bc I wasn't adopted or blood. I get that part. But what she said about hiring a PI to find if a will was written and if I really wanted to, I could go through her things and find a will. We told her we live in Colorado she outright tells us "if this meant anything to you, you'd fly here and find out." Contradiction? Us go through her house? Break in and entering? She told us what the neighbor may be doing is illegal and you give us that advice? NO! We can't just hop on a plane and spend months on end there. People gotta work! I'm from Wai'anae and live in the mainland. I now see how ignorant and un-aloha people can be. Please! Reach out to me so we can discuss this further as I left this review. Otherwise, you know what you've said and how you said it. I've done more research on my own this evening than she's helped me in the 10min conversation she unwillingly wanted to have. Be upfront, let the person know you don't want to take on a case. Let them know if they want to proceed it's gonna cost a load of money to scare them away. We'd be happy to move on - which we're doing as of right now. Don't just be outright sassy/rude.

Bonnie! Bonnie is a gem! She did everything man...the process was so effortless. Took about a year or two to complete everything as our case was pretty complex involving multiple parties. We never once stressed. I honestly wish they could be attorneys for every issue lol! They are absolutely fantastic at what they do.

We first used this law firm in 2018 and experienced courtesy, patience,and professionalism from both the attorneys and clerical staff. We returned in 2025 to update our estate planning and although the faces (staff) in the office have changed, we still experienced such cordial treatment and professionalism. Melissa (our attorney) did an exceptional job in patiently explaining (in lay person language) to us what will need to be performed in meeting our goals and also making us aware of potential negative impacts that our well-intentioned actions could have on other family members or other beneficiaries of our estate. Very grateful for their expertise, patience, and courtesy that was extended to us.

Exceptional experience working with Okura and associates! All staff were extremely professional, understanding, knowledgeable and caring. Estate planning can be a overwhelming and sensitive subject but the staff made us feel comfortable throughout the process. A big thanks to Ethan, Michelle, Maria, and Marcia for helping us with one of the most important decisions of our life.
