When federal agents knocked on my door, I became a different person overnight. I was in total panic mode, barely functioning, contacting law firms that never even responded. Then one lawyer got back to me, and it was the one and only NiaLena Caravasos. I can honestly say it was meant to be. I want to focus this review on her radio spots on the nationally syndicated Price of Business Show. But if you want to understand who this attorney is before you ever email her, go listen to these segments. They run 10 to 15 minutes each, introductions included, and pack in more life wisdom than most hour-long podcasts. For me, they became a genuine part of processing the trauma of being under federal investigation. You can find recordings of the radio segments on her website in the bottom right corner. It's a little radio player. Being investigated by the federal government is a process, and she says so plainly on the show. NiaLena talks openly about the denial, shame, and guilt that plague white collar defendants, people who have lived good, decent, law-abiding lives and suddenly cannot recognize themselves. Every episode, I found myself in the stories. The episode on shame being either debilitating or motivational. The episode on human frailties, where she quotes The Merchant of Venice. They all hit so hard. Education and titles do not shield us from being human. And when she explained that these situations are often not about greed but about circumstances gone wrong, and that people can repair their lives and become incredible again, it gave me real hope when I had very little. What you hear on the radio is exactly who she is in practice. As she puts it, "that's just NiaLena being NiaLena." She does not treat you like a case file. She spends enormous time getting to know every aspect of your life to understand how and why you fell down the rabbit hole, and then she challenges you to actually fix it. It is tough love. Early on, in her direct way, she told me I was a grown man and I could handle this. She was right, and that jolt was exactly what I needed. Because of her guidance, I gained what feels like decades of maturity in months. I finally got real treatment for issues I had carried my whole life without ever recognizing them. I learned to ask for help after a lifetime of refusing to. My relationships with my family are healing in ways I never expected. I now understand why I made the choices I made, where the vulnerabilities were, and how to seal them up so I never end up in that place again. She says on the show that she does not want repeat clients, that she would rather you come back as a friend. That is not a slogan. Most defense attorneys handle the case in front of them and move on, or treat returning clients as repeat business. NiaLena works on the whole person, because she knows that if the underlying problem is never addressed, you will be right back in trouble. She is proactive where other lawyers are reactive, doing the deep, exhausting work up front instead of just showing up and hoping something sticks. Kevin, the host, once said her work goes beyond the call of duty for an attorney, and I could not agree more. If you or someone you love is facing a federal investigation, you are probably terrified, ashamed, and convinced your life is over. Please hear me: it is never, ever hopeless, no matter how dark it seems. Listen to her radio segments, then email her. Or better yet, email her first and then listen, because NiaLena taught me that time is of the essence early in a case. She will keep it real with you and expect you to keep it real with her and yourself. If you are willing to dig deep and do the hard work, she will walk with you through the darkest chapter of your life and help you come out the other side a better, stronger person. She did it for me, and I will be grateful for the rest of my life.
