I retained Daphne Clements-Stevens to represent me in my divorce case and paid a $4,600 retainer with the expectation of diligent representation and clear communication. Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. Throughout my representation, I repeatedly requested updates regarding my case but often received vague responses, delayed replies, or no response at all. Many of my emails went unanswered, leaving me frustrated and uncertain about the status of my case during an already difficult time. I was also concerned by the lack of billing transparency. Despite being told that my retainer had been depleted by accrued fees, I repeatedly requested itemized billing statements and an accounting of my funds. Although I was advised that billing was being prepared, I never received documentation explaining or supporting the charges. Due to the lack of communication, transparency, and progress in my case, I ultimately retained new counsel, resulting in additional legal expenses. To date, I have not received a complete accounting of my retainer funds. This review reflects my personal experience as a former client.

My experience with this firm was extremely disappointing and, frankly, a complete waste of time and money. I paid approximately $2,500 retainer, and over the course of roughly eight months, virtually nothing was accomplished. I retained the firm to handle an eviction, yet aside from a single written notice, no meaningful action was ever taken. In February, I was told a notice would be prepared for posting—this never happened, and no follow-up communication was provided. No eviction filings, no consistent updates, and no real progress at any point. The lack of responsiveness was just as concerning. I had to contact the firm three separate times simply to request that my file be closed. Only after my final attempt did Daphne respond, stating that the retainer would not be returned. Even something as basic as closing a file required repeated follow-up and unnecessary delay. Communication throughout this process was not only inconsistent but inaccurate. On two occasions, I was told the tenant had already vacated the property, which directly contradicted the information I had clearly provided. This demonstrates a concerning lack of attention to detail and awareness of the case. Ultimately, the situation resolved on its own when the individual voluntarily vacated the property—not because of any effort or legal action taken by this firm. In short, I paid thousands of dollars for no meaningful progress, minimal communication, and months of unnecessary delays. Based on my experience, I strongly urge anyone considering this firm to think carefully before handing over a retainer. With no action from this firm and months of no communication regarding what they are going to do for me and when, to keep the entire retainer should be illegal. It was not my fault they would not take action on my case. They did nothing and I had no control over that. Stay away from this place, I feel like it was a total scam from the start. At no point in this entire encounter did they do what they said they would do. Absolutely no follow through. Just unkept promises. I am so disappointed in this business.
