What I remember the most was his unprovoked, extreme rudeness and his profound lack of empathy. He even told me he didn't care, in those words. I might not have minded so much if he had used that same energy to advocate for me, but his efforts on my behalf were minimal. And my divorce was not complicated; there wasn't a whole lot for him to do. When it was over, he didn't send me proof of the divorce, just told me over the phone. Years later, when I called his office and explained that I had never received the divorce decree, his secretary laughed and indicated that they would get it to me, but Steven made me call the clerk's office, pay the fee out of pocket, and get the papers on my own. And his manner was the same as it had been years before: mean.
