We chose this law firm to assist us with a relatively small tax audit for our business. During our initial consultation, we asked very specific questions about the firm’s fees and billing practices. We also explained and demonstrated that all of our paperwork was already organized in PDF folders. We specifically wanted to make sure that we would not be billed unnecessarily for organizing documents that we had already prepared. We paid a $7,000 retainer for the attorney to begin working on our case. Approximately four months later, we discovered that more than $3,000 had been charged against our retainer. The descriptions of these charges included email communications, phone calls, and reviewing paperwork. What concerned us most was that when we spoke directly with the tax audit representative, he told us that he had not received anything from the law firm. This was particularly troubling because the law firm indicated that it had communicated regarding our case. We deeply regret the amount of money we spent without seeing meaningful progress on the audit. When we brought our concerns about the charges and lack of progress to the firm’s attention, instead of receiving a clear explanation or an apology, we were yelled at over the phone. At that point, we decided that we were no longer comfortable continuing to work with the firm. We chose to leave the remaining financial dispute behind rather than continue the relationship, but we did not wish to continue using their services. Based on our experience, we were extremely disappointed with the billing, communication, and overall handling of our case.
