I strongly endorse Nikki Lotze for defense of domestic violence related matters. With Nikki, you are getting everything you want from a criminal defense lawyer. Multiple highly-experienced criminal defense attorneys in DC told me this and identified Nikki as a top five member of the criminal defense bar. I also saw this high-level of practice based on my own experience. Amidst divorce proceedings and a custody dispute, my accuser falsely told police that I had threatened to kill her--a vengeful scenario so common that Nikki lays it out as a core part of her practice on her website. As I told the police--after they handcuffed me in front of my neighbors and questioned me--I never made any threats and my accuser made this false statement as retribution for me not giving into her custody demands and confronting her with our child's allegations that she had hit him. Had the DC Police conducted any kind of competent investigation, they would have determined my accuser was lying before my arrest. Instead, without any credible evidence, they concluded I had done something wrong and put me in jail, resulting in me spending more than two days in custody for no reason, most of it in a cell with no window, constant white light, and infested with cockroaches. In addition, an overzealous and irrational US Attorney's Office in DC led by Jeanine Pirro charged me with a felony, which harms my reputation and had the potential to have serious professional ramifications. Fortunately, Nikki did a masterful job defending me. As a result, a judge dismissed the unjust charge at my initial status hearing--the first possible opportunity I had to challenge it--finding the police lacked probable cause for my arrest. This is an extremely rare outcome, arising from the combination of Nikki's masterful representation and the baseleness of my accuser's false contention. It was also an embarrassing outcome for the DC Police and Jeanine Pirro's US Attorney's Office. Nikki achieved this just result based on powerful preparation, strong relationships with key courthouse personnel, and highly competent courtroom conduct and judgment. She promptly accessed the arresting officers' body worn camera footage, dissecting it for evidence showing my innocence and the officers' malpractice and deception, and effectively cross-examined the testifying officer at my initial status hearing, even as the Assistant US Attorney did all he could to prevent the judge from seeing evidence showing the weakness of my accuser's false contentions and the arresting officers' incompetence and misrepresentations under oath. (Bluntly, the prosecutor cared more about winning than doing justice, but Nikki and the presiding judge put a stop to this abuse of power.) Due to Nikki's strong representation, the judge found the police had (i) included evidence in the arrest report justifying my arrest that did not exist (bluntly, the officer lied overtly in his testimony); (ii) omitted key evidence from the arrest report that showed both my innocence and that the police had reason to question my accuser's false allegations (bluntly, the officer lied by omission in testimony); and (iii) failed to properly investigate before my arrest given all the red flags around my accuser's accusation that both I and even she had made known to them (bluntly, the police were incompetent and abused their power to arrest). It's rare that the police are called out as plainly as this for bad acts. I cannot more strongly endorse Nikki for her work on my case. She made sure justice was done. Thank god for Nikki Lotze!
