We hired Ms. Casey to help secure my partner’s release from Bullitt County Detention Center based upon our prior attorney's recommendation. Our two objectives—both of which had legal support—were to (1) obtain good time credit and (2) have his contempt charge (which was silent as to how to run the sentence) run concurrent. Ms. Casey was successful on the first point, but not the second.

The motion she filed did not cite any statute or case law, and when we asked about including legal authority, she asked us to send it to her what we had. We received no substantive response to our follow-up. We then retained another attorney who filed a habeas petition grounded in statute and case law. The court ruled that my partner was being held unlawfully and ordered his release—19 days after he should have been freed.
