Before forming an opinion about this review, I ask you to do something very simple: Look at the public reviews, complaints, and news coverage concerning PuppyGram, the pet store operating in Green Tree Mall in Clarksville, Indiana. Then ask yourself a question: Would I want my law firm helping this business avoid accountability? There have been serious public concerns and allegations regarding the treatment and health of puppies associated with this business. Customers and members of the community have raised concerns about sick puppies, conditions in which puppies are kept, and the broader ethics of retail puppy sales. My concern became personal when I purchased a puppy from PuppyGram and ultimately took the company to court. I tried to hold the business accountable through the legal system. PuppyGram hired this law firm to defend it. I understand something important: Everyone has the right to legal representation, and attorneys have a professional obligation to represent their clients zealously within the law. Representing an unpopular client does not, by itself, make a lawyer unethical. But consumers also have every right to decide where they spend their money based upon the clients and causes a law firm chooses to represent. That is what this review is about. This firm is a longstanding Clarksville institution. That history carries weight in this community. In my view, it also carries responsibility. I was deeply disappointed to see that reputation and legal expertise placed on the side of a business facing serious criticism from members of this community regarding the welfare of puppies. The lawyers did their job. Now I'm doing mine as a citizen and consumer: telling other people what happened and allowing them to decide whether this is a firm they want to support. If animal welfare matters to you, I encourage you to research PuppyGram for yourself. Read the reviews. Read the news coverage. Look at the complaints and community opposition. Then make your own decision about whether you want your money going to a law firm willing to represent this business. I served 28 years in the United States Navy. At this point in my life, I'm not interested in remaining silent simply because speaking up is inconvenient. The puppies cannot write reviews. They cannot hire lawyers. They cannot walk into court and ask someone to protect them. We can speak for them. That's why I'm writing this.
