Lessem, Newstat & Tooson, LLP

My family is so appreciative and thankful for the help and assistance we received from Arrianna. Our father is elderly and lives in a Memory Care because he has late stages of Alzheimer’s. As people with Alzheimer’s progress, they lose the ability to understand and interact in normal social settings, which is why he lives in memory care. He had a meltdown a week ago when he was trying to tell a group of people to be quiet because some of the other residents could not hear a television program. The police were called and it did not go well, so they took him from the facility and delivered him to a hospital for psychiatric review. We were then exposed to something we knew nothing about, the California law that allows people to be held and drugged involuntarily, or otherwise known by code “5150”. This is where our nightmare begans. We then learned that his stay at the hospital would be extended under code “5250” and a few days later he was moved to another facility in Los Angeles without consent or notice to the family. Keep in mind, when they hold a person under these awful codes, they are wearing nothing more than a hospital gown and paper underwear and shoes. You don’t get your clothes. In fact, you don’t get to pack a bag and prepare in any way shape or form. The hospital staff and social workers don’t tell you the truth about what happens next and our father was restricted in his movements and confined to a prison cell. They then bring him donated clothing that do not fit properly to wear because he is complaining he is cold and would like a sweatshirt to stay warm. For someone with Alzheimer’s, this is cruel and inhuman treatment by the system. The long story short is that I did some google searching and took a chance and called the legal firm Lessem, Newstat, and Tooson and connected with Arrianna. I could tell from the very beginning that she was passionate, caring, and acted with urgency to help me navigate the nightmare. We were able to accomplish the release of our father from the California system that takes advantage of vulnerable citizens with mental health issues and abuses the Federal Medicare system for profit driven reasons. Why else would the process be designed to be opaque and cruel to experiment with medicine on a person and hold them for “psychiatric review”? It’s all about the bottom-line! Arrianna was an amazing coach and advocate for his release and stayed in constant contact with me on a minute-by-minute basis and guided me through the process. I live in another state, so this was very difficult and I am so appreciative to Arrianna. This morning I am flying to see my father and will be making arrangements for him to leave California and come live closer. If you ever find yourself in this situation, I can’t say enough good things about my experience to get a loved one released from a poorly written California law. Thank you Arrianna and Team!!

I referred a friend that had been hit by a car while in a crosswalk to Mr. Tooson. Mr. Tooson obtained camera footage from nearby buildings as conclusive evidence of fault, filed a complaint and demanded $350,000.00.
