I am writing this to share my experience so others can do the due diligence I wish I had done. Having worked with many attorneys in the past, I do not have a history of being difficult to work with; however, my experience with Jennifer Smith did not meet the professional standard I expected given the high cost.

The Pros: Initially, the representation was helpful. Jennifer acted swiftly in the beginning stages, and I felt the case was off to a strong start.

The Cons: Unfortunately, that momentum did not last. As the case progressed, her preparation fell short. I provided significant information and documentation that was simply not included or utilized. During mediation, there were glaring issues that could have been resolved if she had been properly prepared and focused on the details I offered.

The Cost: The fees eventually became unbearable, and I do not feel the results justified the expense. I relied on a personal recommendation rather than doing my own deep research, which I now realize was a mistake.

My Advice: If I could do this over, I would conduct several consultations with different firms and look deeper into recent track records. Do not rely solely on a single recommendation.

Excellent legal counsel. Helped in my custody battle and was phenomenal. From choosing a GAL for the kids to ensuring college was taken care of, Jennifer was on top of it.

Hard to get a response back. Spent over $8,000 all in mostly emails with no responses back. What a money pit didn't even file the papers of my parenting class. I had to let my attorney go and then find out they didn't file papers. If I was you I would go somewhere else.

I hate to write a negative review, but sadly, I can empathize with the others and at the time I was a desperate, broke single mother and could have benefited from an honest review. At first I felt confident in her ability though I was sorely disappointed. It ended up costing significantly more than originally estimated (not uncommon for lawyers), and my ex-husband proposed a settlement (in my favor) a couple days before arbitration and she strongly advised I say no. I did, and I lost at arbitration. I felt they were very unorganized and ill-prepared most of the time. Also, there were often misspellings in the documents they prepared (including my name repeatedly), and it seemed she was always too busy and only cared about taking payments rather than the case itself.

All the one star reviews are not a coincidence. Because I was desperate for a lawyer I looked passed the google reviews because her “Avo reviews” were way better. But that is NOT the case. She will take advantage of your sensitive situation and drag things out as long as possible if it means she can take every penny from you and then some! Not to mention she will leave you high and dry right before your set trial date. I asked her for all my hard copies to get ready for trial and they shredded all of my evidence I needed for trial without my consent. She left me fending for myself to defend my son but jokes on her the stars aligned just as they were supposed to and I won my trial case against a fancy lawyer all by myself!! I don’t know how these people sleep at night knowing how dirty they do people. Find a different lawyer!
