Nicholas assisted and advised me with contractual issues on a project owned by the City of Palo Alto where my company was performing as a subcontractor. We needed to escalate costs as the GC was far behind schedule and our material costs had rocketed in the wake of the post covid material cost increases. We were able to get a very reluctant group of people from the City to agree and things worked out in our favor. Nicholas is transparent, fair, very competent, and a pleasure to deal with!

An unpleasant legal dispute with an accompanying pressing deadline suddenly showed up in my life. I needed an attorney and I was referred to Nicholas Smith. I called him and he didn’t hesitate, he told me to come right over. After explaining the situation, Nick came up with a plan of action during that first meeting. He didn’t bury me in legal jargon, he was straight forward, laid out his reasoning, and made the legal situation clear and easy to understand. I left that meeting feeling confident and somewhat relieved. He quickly got things rolling with the other parties. Once things were moving in the right direction, where a lawyer was not expressly necessary he advised me instead. I especially appreciated that, as he was careful to consider my costs. Nick shadowed me through negotiations, correspondence, and procedures. He was always there to answer questions I had and made sure things were moving efficiently. He turned a stressful situation into one that was, dare I say… interesting and enjoyable...as much as a legal dispute can be anyways. Lastly, I would just add that while he’s a serious guy and knows his stuff, he’s also very likable and good humored. I’d call him again. (Though I hope I don’t have to.)
