Law Office of Nicholas Abaza Probate of Wills and Will Contests

I don’t normally write reviews like this, but Mr. Abaza deserves one. My situation is complicated. Not “a lot of paperwork” complicated, but years of probate issues, disputed property, questionable accounting, overlapping litigation, and a family history that cannot be explained in a five-minute phone call. I had already contacted multiple attorneys by the time I spoke with Mr. Abaza, so I had gotten pretty used to trying to condense everything into a few sentences and hoping someone would actually listen. Mr. Abaza did. He took the time to understand what had happened and why it mattered. He asked intelligent questions, paid attention to the details, and was candid with me about the case. He didn’t make promises he couldn’t keep, and he didn’t talk down to me because I’m not an attorney. That alone was a refreshing change. I’ll also admit that at one point, after becoming incredibly frustrated and overwhelmed by everything surrounding my case, I directed some of that frustration at Mr. Abaza when he absolutely did not deserve it. Once I collected myself, I apologized. He would have been completely justified in ending the conversation there. Instead, he accepted my apology with an incredible amount of grace and continued trying to help me however he reasonably could. That told me as much about his character as anything else in my experience with him. In the end, his firm wasn’t able to represent me because the economics of the case didn’t work for their contingency requirements. Obviously that wasn’t the outcome I wanted, but it didn’t change my opinion of him. If anything, the way he handled everything increased my respect for him. He explained his reasoning honestly and still took the time to give me useful guidance when he had absolutely no obligation to do so. There is a big difference between an attorney who listens because you may become a paying client and one who genuinely gives a damn about the person sitting across from him. My experience with Mr. Abaza was the latter. I’m still dealing with my case, and I sincerely wish circumstances had worked out differently because I would have trusted him to represent me. I can’t speak to anyone else’s experience, but I can say without hesitation that mine was exceptional.

Probate issues generally arise at difficult times in life. Mr. Abaza handled my case with skill and compassion. I was informed every step of the way what was happening, and really appreciate his services.

I am a former client of Nick Abaza, and my experience left me believing that my attorneys’ financial interests were placed ahead of mine. I have tried more than once to post an honest review about what happened in my case, only to see my reviews removed. That is especially troubling because consumers should be able to hear directly from actual clients—not just friends, colleagues, business associates, or others posting glowing reviews. My concerns go far beyond online reviews. In my case, what began as an hourly representation turned into extraordinarily expensive, high-conflict litigation involving my stepmother. In my view, opportunities to de-escalate the dispute were not handled in my best interest. I later learned information that led me to believe my stepmother had been prepared to settle, yet I was not told that at the time. Jorge Borunda also converted the representation from hourly billing to a contingency arrangement. I was not referred to independent counsel before agreeing to that change. The resulting fee arrangement ultimately gave the lawyers a financial claim against portions of the estate settlement, creating what I believe was a serious conflict between maximizing my recovery and maximizing their fee. When a dispute later arose over the legal fees, the matter went to arbitration. I subsequently learned of relationships and circumstances involving arbitrator Anne Ashby that, in my opinion, should have been disclosed before the arbitration proceeded. Those issues, along with the handling of our underlying litigation and attorney fees, have since been examined publicly in Wayne Dolcefino’s Damn Lawyers investigative series. From my perspective as the client, the pattern was deeply disturbing: negative reviews disappearing, litigation escalating instead of resolving, a fee structure becoming more lucrative for the attorneys, critical settlement information allegedly not reaching me when I needed it, and ultimately an arbitration process that I have challenged because of undisclosed-conflict concerns. Anyone considering hiring this firm should do more than look at the star rating. Watch the Dolcefino investigation, read the underlying court filings, ask detailed questions about billing and conflicts, and make your own informed decision. Lastly, I am posting many of the fake reviews that I discovered that Nicki Abaza has posted in the past. I am also putting a date and timestamp of Friday, August 14, 2026 at 10:51 AM. I am doing this as a notation because I’m going to save the review and put it in the archives to submit to the Attorney General of Texas and the FTC. It is fraudulent to remove real client reviews. And the state bar prohibits this.
