Kathy Walrod ended her professional career not with distinction, but with disgrace — and for those of us who had the misfortune of working with her as a parenting coordinator, her retirement could not have come soon enough.

Ms. Walrod’s performance in our custody case will be remembered not for wisdom or neutrality, but for negligence, avoidance, and the permanent damage caused by her inaction. She was not a stabilizing force. She was not a voice of reason. She was a silent witness to conflict, a retired judge whose name carried weight — but whose actions fell irreparably short of the responsibility entrusted to her.

What made it worse was the sharp contrast between her title and her conduct. A former judge — someone expected to lead with fairness and principle — instead:
1. Dismissed Documented Abuse of Process:
When one parent repeatedly engaged in gatekeeping — blocking phone calls, withholding basic items like clothing, or creating communication barriers — Ms. Walrod did nothing. Even with irrefutable written evidence, she avoided action and enabled further harm to the child’s relationship with their father.
2. Failed to Uphold Neutrality:
In what can only be described as a moment of unprofessional bias, Ms. Walrod referred to me — a parent simply asking for accountability — as a bully. No evidence supported the claim. No due process was afforded. It was a reckless, demeaning label thrown out by someone who had clearly stopped doing the work of listening.
3. Created More Conflict Instead of Resolving It:
Time and again, she avoided difficult conversations, delayed necessary decisions, and failed to enforce even the most basic standards of cooperation. By refusing to intervene when necessary, she ensured that we returned to court — the very outcome her appointment was supposed to avoid.
4. Let Her Title Speak Louder Than Her Effort:
Ms. Walrod relied on her status as a former judge to mask a lack of engagement. Her emails were vague. Her recommendations were nonexistent. Her follow-through was absent. The trust that came with her title was not earned. It was spent.

I don’t know what kind of legacy Kathy Walrod hoped to leave behind — but if this final chapter of her career was any indication, it should serve as a warning to others. A title does not make someone effective. Her failure to act, failure to mediate, and failure to protect the child’s best interests caused real harm. That damage doesn’t disappear just because she’s retired.

If Ms. Walrod ever reads this — I want her to know this truth clearly: You did not retire with honor. You walked away while families were still suffering from the damage you allowed. And that is how you ended your career — not as a respected judge, but as a parenting coordinator who became a disgrace to the very process you once swore to uphold.
