When my nephew Mohamed was recently detained by ICE in Detroit, he was suddenly placed in expedited removal after a problematic credible fear interview. That same night, when we realized what was happening, Amy acted quickly and decisively, staying up late to file a federal habeas corpus petition.

At the time, Mohamed didn’t have an immigration lawyer, so Amy volunteered and appeared before the immigration judge the very next day, persuading him to vacate the credible fear decision. She did all of this at a very low, essentially pro bono rate.

Because of her work, ICE was blocked from removing Mohmed, the federal court took control of the case, and eventually his habeas petition was granted and a bond release was ordered.
