I had an excellent experience working with Katie King and her team at Kansas Legal Services. From the beginning, Katie treated me with respect and took the time to understand what I was dealing with. As a Deaf person, accessibility and communication are extremely important to me. Katie never made me feel like communicating with me was difficult or inconvenient. She was patient, responsive, and willing to work with me in a way that allowed me to fully understand what was happening with my case. She was also incredibly thorough. Whenever she needed documents or information from me, she was clear about what she needed, and I always felt like she was actually paying attention to the details of my situation. Ultimately, their work helped bring a case that had been causing me a tremendous amount of stress to an agreed dismissal. What stands out even more is that Kansas Legal Services provided this help to me at no cost. The quality of support I received from Katie and her team is something I will genuinely remember. I am extremely grateful for everything they did for me and for the work Kansas Legal Services does for people who otherwise may not be able to afford an attorney.

Nothing got started. I had video evidence that I was to share with someone a lawyer knows that was supposed to email their info to me so I could send video's. I received nothing. I mentioned that the situation was still in process and that change will come soon. I was told to contact back when it does. Well, it did, I'm in a life changing situation now. Time is of essence. Someone calls me yesterday, says it showed I have a case in whitchata, which I never did. And that my case here in Shawnee county Kansas closed. Didn't know we were done yet! I told them we weren't. Now I have to reapply. This process is too slow. Nobody ever answers the phone during buisness hour's. You play phone tag untill you get lucky they happen to call at the right time. No other specific # after they try and reach you. Now, that I'm in a situation where I'm going to be homeless because everything is a slow process, and due to the month to month lease law that WAS used in a form of a retaliatory tactic against me because I did make a complaint to the City of Topeka and he was given paperwork stating his violations. I listened to the law and it got me here. Where is the protection against landlord retaliation? And I need help helping me find within my situation, my case, that I have proper grounds to sue. But you got to hear the story. I have lots of clear evidence via video's, pictures, and written documentation of conversations, damages after the fact, etc. How does a person who paid his rent, did everything he was supposed to do by law, and I admit I did not know the AI truths, as I carefully searched for 3 years to make sure I wouldn't put myself in a situation because I didn't truly believe the info that was on the sites after my tiredness search for the right answers. I let my guard down which I'm not wired like that. Just thought maybe I shouldn't be so closed in all the time. I had a small gut feeling and I should of listened! Always listen to your gut! But there's something wrong with how he used this lease law. To me, there should be an exception to the Rule'. Out of anger and revenge, he used a retaliation tactic against me for exercising my rights to complain to authorities of my landlord's long-term non compliance to repair his neglected damages to the rental unit. Regardless of that lease law. I done everything right,and what was expected of me. Told I would be protected against retaliation tactics. But, he gets to go home.. I will be homeless.. there's no justice here, just a way to enable a slumlord to keep winning and breaking the rules.

They helped us with a frustrating and confusing legal situation, providing guidance and pointing us to the exact paperwork we needed to support our claim. KLS helped me when i was going through a hard time with my property management and eviction court. I have never been in a situation like this before and i was very lost and didnt know what to do. I had a very nice young lady named Katie offer to help me with my case, she was very caring, and ready to help from the very start. She helped me get the case dismissed and found a solution better than i could've even imagined and super quick. Im convinced Katie was a guardian angel because what she did to help me seemed virtually impossible to me but she did it with what seemed to be ease.

My Husband has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease & we knew we should get our Power of Attorney papers & Legal Forms in Order. The Attorney Diane did a wonderful job explaining each Legal Form we had completed. She was so kind & easy to talk to & answered all of our questions.
