My son incurred a DUI with a lot of odd features like no sobriety test, searching his car without asking, loss of police documents, etc. Mr Calmes is reportedly the premier expert on DUI lectures on the subject and is a resource for other attorneys. The value of his expertise was not evident in this case. He assured my son his license could not be suspended, when in fact it was and my son lost a job offer because of this. He informed Mr. Calmes who took months to resolve this. Mr Calmes repeatedly failed to return my son's calls for weeks on end, even when there were supposed to be significant developments and he had promised to call within 24 hours. Once he asked my sone to come by his office the next day, failing to remember that my son was in school in Maryland. The case was eventually settled after almost ten months for a lesser charge and community service. By his own statement Mr. Calmes did not argue for a reduction on the merits of my son's case, he simply requested the reduction and waited for the DA to make up their minds. Other attorneys tell me this is very unusual and Mr. Calmes has a history of being very devoted to the best service for his clients. I can only say that in this case it appeared to us that only the absolute minimum was done, and then only after an unreasonable number of inquiries and requests from us. If Mr. Calmes did any more than that on this case, he did not inform us about it.
