Met with Mr. Mayer after being referred to him by a neighbor. Admittedly being given a free consultation was nice, but it ended up being an absolute mess. First he told me that my self submitted hearing request had already been denied and explained that the court had cited a Supreme Court statute that ultimately courts don't have to acknowledge pro se people. He then told me I should have known that Christian churches do supervised visitation. They don't, tried to explain to him why, was told he was the professional and was right. Was then told I needed 'an actual psychiatrist to tell the court you'll never have any mental health problems again,' and as an LCSW, I know that some professionals are willing to risk their career promising other people's behavior, but that good providers don't usually risk so much on something they cannot predict. Told me I was wrong.
Well, I just came from the magistrates office and my request for a hearing is being scheduled. No Christian churches I called knew why anyone would think they do supervised visits, and my own therapist and I had a laugh at his opinion on mental health statements for court.
The only valuable opinion I got from the hour was to retry my disability application, which I did do.
Would avoid this lawyer, and would suggest my ex husbands lawyer, David Hudson, if anyone wants a young, motivated, and competent lawyer.

Update: Nothing screams stable professional of decades than breaking confidentiality to argue about a Google review.

Mr. Mayer, instead of addressing the concerns I discussed in my original post, chose to demonstrated his lack of professionalism and decided detailing my current legal issues as the best way to invalidate my opinion of my experience.

Obviously this was done to make me look bad and himself as just the simple man trying to help. This is inaccurate, he is old, behind, lacking in communication, and above all else, petty. Probably time to retire.

By the way, the hearing that was denied is scheduled for August 5th. I did what you didn't want to do, for free, and without being a knob about it. You're not superior, just old.

Thinking of using him? Be aware, when he makes a mistake, and you post your own review, it will be your information on Google.

If there was a way to rate less than 1 star. I would. I have never been compelled to write a review in my life. Unfortunately people should be warned this man, is the most unprofessional, rude, and snide lawyer I have ever met.

While being infront of the judge, constantly argues with you, and if you want him to do what he was hired and paid upfront to do, if he doesn't agree with you, will threaten to drop you as a client mid-discussion. He will fight more for the opposing party than you. The fact that he continues to post peoples personal case notes, to public forum, should show how petty and low this man is. Which, i do believe is against the regulations for lawyers either way.

John M. Mayer Jr. doesn’t sugarcoat anything. He tells you exactly what you need to hear not what you want to hear.

He’s direct, serious, and expects you to come prepared with your paperwork and your money in order. No games, no nonsense.

I respected his honesty. I would’ve hired him if I could’ve afforded it.

If you want the truth and someone who means business, he’s your guy.

My lawyer did an excellent job representing me and truly advocated for everything I wanted. They were attentive, professional, and made me feel supported throughout the entire process. Their clear communication and dedication gave me confidence during a very stressful time. I’m extremely grateful for their hard work and highly recommend them to anyone needing a strong and caring attorney.
