Overcharged and under-serviced! We contacted this law firm in September 2024 for debt collection. Documents were filed in October 2024 but they did not respond to verbal and written requests for updates until December 2024 and did not provide us with any of the documents until January of this year. Our lawyer initially said this process would cost $1500. Our mistake was not getting this estimate in writing because $2500 later only half of what he said he would do was actually done. By the time our lawyer contacted us in December, he had already exhausted our retainer and we had our first invoice. He told us that, if we paid the invoice without contesting, he would file additional paperwork, but that paperwork was never filed. We learned in January the lawyer was exiting the firm and no one, not even the owner, could provide us with an update of any recent activity. I raised a question about our initial invoice, expressed concerns of being overcharged, and asked the billing rep to review my invoice. She was defensive and dismissive. Rather than reviewing the charges with us, she stated that the owner verified all of the charges were valid, he was more than generous by zeroing out a bill they sent us in error, we did not understand how law firms work, and they would be willing to defend their charges to the board. Note that at no point did I mention any intention of talking with the board. My wish is that they would have pursued our case with the same tenacity with which they defended their charges.

I needed attorney representation and fortunately found Shirin Chahal at this firm. Shirin was nothing but professional and kind in handling of the matter. She is an asset to the Bernstein attorney firm and I cannot recommend her enough in her professionalism and communication skills.

This firm has already been granted the right to collect attorney fees under the federal law. Yet, they want to charge injured parties up front to take the case. I believe if they want to charge me to pay the fees then they should wave their right to collect additional fees as specified by law.

Mr. Howard Bernstein and his amazing team helped me to get ready for a small claim court claim. They organized the information and when I was facing the judge it was really easy to prove my point and win the case. The prices were reasonable and no surprises on the final bill. Hope that I will not need to but it's good to know that there is someone to count on in case of a problem.
