I hired Hobie Crystal to represent my husband, and unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing and stressful.

From the beginning, communication was a major issue. I made multiple phone calls to the office and spoke with his secretary several times, but I never received a call back directly from him before the hearing. My husband also attempted to reach him from prison to speak prior to court, but that meeting never happened. We paid $1,300 expecting preparation and communication, and that did not take place.

During the hearing on December 4, 2025, I did not feel that my husband was properly represented. The entire case revolves around alleged intoxication, yet there were no confirmed toxicology results, no documentation of the bloodwork, and no clear chain of custody presented. Despite this, we were repeatedly pressured to accept a plea deal without having any actual evidence in front of us.

Throughout the process, I came prepared with written questions regarding my husband’s rights and important points about his case, but those concerns were not meaningfully addressed.

What also stood out to me was the repeated pressure and tone during the hearing. I was asked multiple times, “Do you want a hearing?” even after clearly stating yes. This happened several times, with him going back and forth and continuing to push the same question. I remained respectful but firm in my decision.

When we were leaving the courthouse, I felt disrespected and intimidated by the way I was spoken to. I clearly stated that we could not accept any plea without evidence, and I was told that continuing the case could take six months to a year. My response was that it would take however long it takes, but we would not plead guilty to something my husband is not guilty of.

During the hearing, the officer involved gave inconsistent statements regarding the timing and status of the bloodwork, which raised serious concerns for me. These inconsistencies were not strongly challenged.

Additionally, my husband is enrolled in a state-run program in York where he reports regularly, is tested every other Wednesday, and receives clean results. I was told this documentation would be requested, but it was never presented or discussed in court.

After the hearing, I received an email from Attorney Crystal that I found extremely unprofessional and disrespectful. In that email, he stated that I “made a big mistake,” that I was “trying to be the lawyer,” and that I “screwed this up” for my husband. He also stated that he would no longer represent him.

As a wife advocating for her husband and trying to understand what is happening, I did not expect to be spoken to in that manner. I remained respectful throughout the entire process and simply asked for clarity and evidence before making any decisions.

This situation has deeply affected our family. My children are without their father, my husband lost his job, and I have personally experienced emotional and physical stress trying to navigate this situation while not receiving the guidance and support we expected from legal representation.

I am sharing this experience so others can make an informed decision. Communication, preparation, respect, and advocacy are extremely important when hiring an attorney, and unfortunately, those expectations were not met in our case.

2 months before my one year probation was up, all costs paid and with the recommendation of my p.o. I paid Hobie Crystal 600 in cash to get me out early. A hearing was held he didn't even tell me about and HE LOST. I went to his office & had to wait an hour (I had an appt.) before he called me in and gave me a check for the full amount paid, with no other explanation. He doesn't get brownie points for that. He wasted my time, which is much more valuable. The truth would have been nice, too.
