I had a very contested probate with a co-heir from the very start of the process. This other family member got an attorney early on, while I tried to handle things myself. I got almost all the property settled over the ensuing two years. Towards the end, the co-heir moved some of the property, expensive and with sentimental value, out of the state of Oklahoma and intended on disposing it without mine or court approval. I talked until I was blue in the face with the co-heir and the attorney to return the property to Oklahoma County, where the court had jurisdiction. I needed an attorney to file a motion with the court to force the return of the properties. I spoke with two different, very reputable attorneys, who said I should just write the motion myself as the law was really clear that the property should not have been removed from Oklahoma County. They both advised me to be really cautious as there are many attorneys who would take my money and not do anything for me. I wish I would have listened to them. But I wanted an attorney to write this simple motion because the properties, again, were expensive and had sentimental value. Lacey took the case and my $3500 retainer to put in this simple motion. After almost three months, a lot of threats from the co-heir and the other attorney that they were going to sell the property out of state and without court approval, and Lacey ignoring my pleas to get my motion filed, I finally spoke with Lacey. I asked her “what the hell have you been doing; it’s been almost three months and still no motion filed with the court.” She interrupted me saying, “let me stop you right there” and proceeded to tell me she quit. She returned way less than half the retainer. Later, I found out that at about month two of hiring Lacey, she had told the other attorney, in an email, “I will admit I do not want to waste time and money filing the motion to have the personal property to Okc [sic] but he wants me to…”

Uh yeah, that’s why I hired you Lacey. In the end, due to her wasting that three months, I lost the opportunity to have the property returned to Oklahoma County and to have it split equitably by the court. If Lacey would have argued half as hard for me as she did against me, I would not have lost out on some important items from the estate.

The staff was fabulous. Had everything in a seamless environment. They addressed any of our concerns and handled everything with enthusiasm and concern for us. Would recommend them for anybody who needs estate planning.
