I dealt with Attorney Brumer as opposing counsel during my divorce.

He was tough and extremely demanding on his client’s behalf, but always professional.

The contrast with the large “We Defend Men” firm I first hired was stark. After paying them $10K, it became clear they were just going through the motions. In my experience, steps were delayed that could move the case forward - - including efforts to shift payments away from the high temporary spousal support toward the typically lower, court-ordered amount - - delays that protract divorce and may cost clients thousands.

After firing that firm and representing myself, with help from the Family Law Facilitator’s Office, I came to see how slow the process had been with the big firm. I realized not all lawyers truly fight for their clients. Brumer did.

Despite his toughness, when it came to handling the house-sale proceeds, he disbursed my share promptly and without games.

For men tempted by the big-firm pitch, my advice is to think twice. In hindsight, I wish I had hired someone like Brumer, who keeps a smaller client load and gives each case his relentless, focused attention.
