I called Attorney Alex about a deed issue on a house we were thinking of buying. I told him that I wasn't sure we were going to pursue the issue, wanted a consultation with him, and that I was concerned about getting a large surprise bill.

Alex assured me that if hired, he would keep me updated on all charges as they accrued, yet he never explicitly told me when he started charging me and never gave me any of those updates he said he would.

We had 2 phone calls and a few brief emails. He did take time to review our case after my first consulation call, but never told me that I was being charged.

In the end, I told him that we would not need his services and suddenly got a $625 bill. When I complained, he told that their firm does NOT offer a free consultation and yet he chose not to charge me for the first phone call, but that was within his right to charge for everything after that.

Be sure to ask each and every time you email or speak to someone in their office as to whether or not you are being charged. This attorney lacked transparency and did not keep his word about informing me of charges as we interacted. I expected him to clearly say to me when charges would be start and like he reassured me he would, give me updates on the total of any bill as we interacted.
