Three years ago, I was sitting at a complete stop at a red light when another driver slammed into the back of my vehicle, mistakenly believing I was moving. While I’m grateful the accident was not even worse, the impact caused significant damage to multiple cervical discs and nerve injuries that profoundly affected my daily life.

As a pianist and someone who is left-hand dominant, these injuries were devastating. The pain in my neck, back, arm, wrist, and hand became so severe I could no longer play the piano without intense pain. Even simple tasks like handwriting or stirring food on the stove became difficult and, at times, impossible. I was living with chronic pain every day, which affected both my professional work and my ability to manage normal daily activities around my home.

To make matters more stressful, my own auto insurance company began peer-reviewing multiple appointments with my physical therapist and neurosurgeon, despite the excellent medical coverage we had faithfully paid for.

Because of these challenges, my husband and I retained Jim Hagelgans in early 2024 to help us navigate not only the issues with our own insurance company, but also our dealings with the at-fault driver’s insurance company. Hiring Jim was one of the best decisions we could have made!

There were countless things we never would have known to question or challenge. Things we likely would have simply accepted that could have negatively impacted my care and recovery. Jim and his team knew exactly how to handle every situation and fought tirelessly on my behalf. Throughout the entire process, they were prompt, professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely compassionate. They consistently checked in on my progress, especially when the difficult decision was made that spinal surgery had become necessary.

He was there for us through my surgery this past February and recently helped us settle our case without the added stress and burden of going to trial.
