Client Reviews
My parents wanted to update their living will, POA, and do estate planning. They asked me to try to coordinate an appointment for them with a lawyer in Charleston, WV. I live out of state.
Via the Good Grief Law's website, you are prompted to send an inquiry via email which I did on 7/28/25. The following day, I did not get a response.
Via their Facebook business site, I found another email address to send my inquiry just in case my first email was not received. I sent the email on 7/29/25 and still did not get a response.
I then sent a Facebook messenger business chat message on 7/30/25. Still no response. I then decided to call the office on 7/31/25. The secretary who answered was really not welcoming or pleasant on the phone. I informed her that I've been trying to reach out for the past 3 business days, but no one had gotten back to me. She said someone would get back to me, but in her words that person was "busy". She asked for my cell number which I gave. I thought surely by the next business day on 8/1/25, I would get some call back, but still no call.
I decided to abort mission and find another lawyer. Via his website, I sent an inquiry. I got email that same business day. I called this new lawyer on 8/1/25. He got back to me that same day and got my parents a consult appt scheduled on 8/4/25 which they completed and informed me went very well. (I will give that lawyer a raving review in the future).
So save yourself the time and effort and don't bother calling Good Grief Law. I expect a lawyer's office to be responsive when it comes to all forms of communication. With 2 emails, a business text, and an office phone call, all pretty much disregarded, I knew this lawyer would not be the right one for my parents, but I sure did try to give Attorney Carrico's office a chance. I cannot imagine elderly citizens having to deal with this type of office. I'm just glad I dealt with this instead of my elderly parents being subjected to this office. This was highly disappointing and infuriating to say the least. This was just to set things up for a consultation. I cannot imagine if you had questions or concerns once established with your case with this office. The best way to describe this office is unreliable and unresponsive. It was a horrible first impression especially when the secretary said they were "busy". That is not what I would want to hear from my lawyer. That means they really don't care about your needs.
Addendum:
Only after posting a negative, but truly honest review of my experience with Good Grief Law, Attorney Rachael Carrico finally reached out to me and we communicated offline. Seven days had gone by from my initial inquiry for consultation to the time she responded. She apologized for the delay in communication and explained her physical office relocated 2 weeks prior and she had hired new staff. Though she explained this, my argument was any form of communication is better than none. There could have been a notice on her website, Facebook business office post, an automated reply by email that she was not available for "x" amount of days, but will get back to me as soon as possible, or a statement from the secretary that due to current cases or other demands, the response to my inquiry will be delayed, but duly noted. My intent of the negative post was constructive criticism so this would not happen to future clients, especially the elderly. It was a series of unfortunate events, but hopefully a teaching point for her and her staff to improve on communication since there are so many modalities to do so. First impressions and responsiveness are critical with any business.
