I AM writing this to share my experience with Mr. Shae Atkinson regarding a criminal case involving Theft of Property and Failure to Appear charges in 2017. My experience was defined by a lack of communication, a failure to assist with vital resources, and administrative oversight that resulted in significant personal loss.
Lack of Advocacy for Veteran Status
During my time in custody, I informed Mr. Atkinson of my previous mental health diagnoses (Bipolar, Schizophrenia, and PTSD) and requested his assistance in locating my DD-214. This document was essential for me to receive a Veteran’s mental health evaluation and proper care. Despite multiple requests for help or even a starting point on how to retrieve it, the process was "dragged out" until I was eventually told it was impossible. This lack of effort directly impacted my ability to access veteran-specific resources.
Sentencing Discrepancies
The most devastating aspect of this representation involved the clarity of my release date. I signed an agreement for a two-year sentence at the Penal Farm in Memphis. However, on the day I expected to be released, I was informed I had an additional six months and 14 days to serve.
During that unexpected extension:
I lost both my grandmother and my mother.
I was denied the opportunity to attend their funerals.
Post-Release Professionalism
Upon my release in 2020, I encountered Mr. Atkinson in a courtroom. He provided his card and offered to help, yet despite my repeated calls to his office, he never returned a single one.
Final Verdict:
If you are looking for an attorney who provides thorough follow-through, respects your mental health needs, or possesses empathy for your family situation, I cannot recommend Mr. Atkinson. My experience felt like I was just a number, and the lack of diligence regarding my sentence led to some of the hardest moments of my life.

I would not hire this attorney Ganguli, he didn’t wanted to listen to our needs and help in seeking an agreement by pleading guilty. He seems not interested in our case and we hired another attorney that he help us without hesitation. It really seemed that this attorney did not wanted to help us at all… didn’t offered other options even though they were more options, instead he wanted us to plead guilty… I’m glad I didn’t let him took my case. If you want to fight your case for good cause, this is not the attorney you want to hire.
