My husband retained Michele Freeman as the Guardian ad Litem in his custody case and paid a $3,000 retainer. We were disappointed with the process and the outcome.

The investigation lasted approximately a year before a report was completed. During that time, my husband raised numerous concerns that he felt were important to the children’s welfare, but many of those concerns were not addressed in the final report. Instead, significant attention was given to topics such as discussions between the children regarding evolution and religion, which we did not feel were central to the issues before the court, which were parental alienation, issues with school attendance and concerns with things the children came home to us reporting happened while in their mothers care.

We were also concerned that only two of the children (who lived with their mother) were interviewed multiple times, while another child (who lived with us) was excluded from the investigation after his initial interview. As a result, we did not feel that all perspectives were adequately considered. The attorneys in our case even referred to the report as “useless” as it helped none of the professionals involved gain true insight to any concerns that were addressed.

Six months after her report was completed, new and serious circumstances arose involving the children’s mother, including a positive methamphetamine test, and we are now pursuing emergency custody. Despite having previously investigated the family, we were informed that an additional $1,200 would be required to continue involvement in the matter to be split between the parties.

She did a very good job of making my husband feel like she was equally concerned with the issues he brought forth and that she was working to understand and help resolve communication issues and the constant attempts of parental alienation in our case, however she did nothing to address it in documentation to the court.

Based on our experience, we did not feel that the investigation was thorough, timely, or reflective of the concerns that were presented. I would not recommend her for a GAL or for an attorney in any family case for that matter.

Took about $3000 from us, didn’t do her job at all. Went to a different lawyer and got my stuff taken care of with in the first court day with him.
